The Armenian Delegation Met with High-Ranking Officials of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund

Within the framework of the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group in Washington DC, the RA Minister of Finance Vardan Aramyan met with high-ranking officials of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund. The Armenian delegation included Deputy Prime Minister Vache Gabrielyan, Chairman of the Central Bank Arthur Javadyan and other officials.

In particular, meetings took place with the WB Vice President Cyril Muller and the Executive Director of the WB Dutch Constituency Frank Heemskerk. The key topics of the discussion were the terms of preparation and coordination of the “Country Partnership Framework (CPF)” document, the issue of the expediency of using the “Development Policy Instrument” in 2018 and the further joint steps to implement the "Debt for Environment" program.

Meetings were also held with the IMF Executive Director Anthony De Lannoy and the Director of the IMF Middle East and Central Asia Department Jihad Azour. At the course of the discussion, particularly, it was touched upon the successful completion of the previous IMF program, the possible offer of the Armenia side to start a new program in the framework of the “External Fund Facility” of the IMF and the activities carried out toward the review of fiscal rules.

A preliminary arrangement was reached on the timetable for further work on the new program. The parties agreed to continue their joint efforts in terms of the RA fiscal rules’ review, in particular – attracting new technical assistance by the IMF in future as well.
