“Standard & Poors” assigned first rating to the RA Government and awarded a sovereign rating, outlook "positive"

“Standard & Poors” Global Ratings assigned first rating to the RA Government and awarded “B+” long-term foreign and local currency sovereign credit ratings to Armenia, outlook "positive". At the same time, the Agency assigned “B” short-term foreign and local currency ratings and “BB” transfer and convertibility assessment to Armenia.

According to the Agency the positive outlook reflects Armenia’s prospects for a continued rapid economic expansion over the next years, as well as the potential for faster-than-anticipated reduction in external leverage and stronger fiscal performance.

It is also mentioned in the publication that the sovereign rating of the Republic of Armenia is subject to improvement over the next 12 months if it sustains its strong economic performance with no major external headwinds or pandemic-related challenges clouding the medium-term growth prospects alongside sustained structural reform momentum. A larger-than-expected reduction in external debt may also contribute to the rating increase.
