On October 16–17 of this year, a delegation led by Araik Yesayan, Acting Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Armenia, participated in the roundtable discussion "Participatory Budgeting: Development Together" held in Moscow, Russian Federation. The event was organized by the Research Financial Institute of the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation.
The roundtable addressed several important topics, including citizen participation in budgetary decision-making. Experiences in participatory budgeting from Russia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Armenia were presented. Participants discussed various approaches to engaging the population in the budget decision-making process and shared successful practices from different countries.
Special attention was given to the role of participatory budgeting and tools for establishing state support for communities. The delegation also presented Armenia’s experience, providing insights into preliminary outcomes for 2024 and the process of implementing programs formed through participatory budgeting with subsidies.
The discussions emphasized the importance of ongoing and regular exchange of experiences and proposed the creation of a unified platform for participant countries to engage in relevant discussions on participatory budgeting.
