RA Minister of Finance received Delegation headed by Shombi Sharp

On February 5, the RA Minister of Finance Atom Janjughazyan received the UN Resident Coordinator for the Republic of Armenia Shombi Sharp.

Highly appreciating the existing cooperation and exchange of experience, the Minister thanked the UN for the readiness to support Armenia in different directions in the current conditions.

In his turn, Shombi Sharp stressed the necessity to discuss the priorities of further cooperation with Armenia, in that sense highlighting the importance of issues related to the framework of the five-year UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2021-2025 which is currently being negotiated.

It was noted that the provision of assistance, in particular, social assistance in overcoming the consequences of the epidemic and the war, is kept under the UN constant scrutiny, and from now the UN activities in Armenia will be mainly aimed at promoting sustainable inclusive growth. At the same time, reference was made to the financing of the UN Sustainable Development Goals as a key direction of cooperation with the RA Ministry of Finance.

During the meeting, the Minister of Finance, introducing the economic situation in Armenia and the latest developments, stressed the confidence of the international community in the economic environment of Armenia which is reflected in the IMF Executive Board Third Review under the Stand-By Arrangement as of December 11, 2020. It is evidenced by the interest in the USD 750 million Eurobonds recently placed by Armenia in the international capital market, notwithstanding the uncertainty over economic recovery caused by the pandemic both worldwide and in Armenia.

The importance of further cooperation in the private sector was also stressed during the meeting.
