Sargis Araratyan (1886-1943) was a chemist, public-state, national-political figure, a member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun). He lived in Baku, participated in Armenian national life. In 1918, he was elected as a member of the National Council of Baku and was sent to Persia to negotiate with the British on the fate of Baku. After the establishment of Armenia’s independence (end of 1918), he moved to Yerevan. He was elected as a member of the Armenian Democratic Liberal Party (1919-1920), a member of the parliament. He was the Minister of Finance and Minister of Food Supply in August 1919 – May 1920, the Minister of Guardianship and Reconstruction in May 1920 – December 1920. Araratyan left Yerevan in December 1920 and lived in Bucharest, Romania.
