The RA Minister of Finance, Vahe Hovhannisyan, within the framework of his working visit to the United States, met with Daniel Zelikow, Vice Chair of Public Sector at JP Morgan.
During the meeting, the Minister presented the general economic and political situation in Armenia to Zelikow. Zelikow noted that he was impressed by some economic indicators of the RA Government, particularly the debt/GDP ratio level. Speaking about the RA sovereign rating, the Minister noted that the reason for its low status is mainly the closed borders and political conflict.
The minister emphasized once again that one of the primary goals of Armenia is to become a regional financial hub, and in this regard, the development of correspondent banking relationships with leading banking institutions is also important, which will help expand the diversification of the export of intermediary services of the Armenian banking system.
Vahe Hovhannisyan emphasized the possibility of opening a J.P. Morgan office in Armenia, and the parties agreed to continue the dialogue in that direction.
