Within the framework of his working visit to the United States the RA Minister of Finance, Vahe Hovhannisyan, met with Ivana Živković, Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations, Assistant Administrator and Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
During the meeting, the sides discussed the key directions for effective cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), emphasizing the reforms in the tax sector. Minister Hovhannisyan specifically mentioned that in the present time, in-depth approaches related to Armenia's tax policy are being reviewed and discussed, as well as potential changes to the tax code. He added that these topics could be the main directions of upcoming cooperation with the UN.
Following this, Minister Hovhannisyan highlighted the importance of developing institutional capacities, including the key professional skills of government representatives, noting that there are still specific skills that need to be developed and are currently a focus for the Armenian government.
Ivana Živković noted that the strategic document on bilateral cooperation with Armenia is currently under discussion, which is expected to clearly outline the main areas of cooperation. The Minister emphasized the importance of addressing the main needs of Armenia, which are currently the focus of the government, through this document. He also touched upon the strategy for public administration reforms, which is a priority for the Armenian government, and stressed the importance of reflecting specific components of this strategy in the bilateral cooperation strategic document.
At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed their willingness to continue to be consistent in addressing the issues discussed during the meeting in the future.
