The EU budget support program in the field of education was discussed

The RA Minister of Finance Vahe Hovhannisyan and the RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Zhanna Andreasyan met with Ambassador Vassilis Maragos, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Armenia, to discuss the education component of the EU budget support program.

The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport welcomed the guests and emphasized the importance of continuous cooperation with the European Union in the context of reforms in the field of education. Zhanna Andreasyan emphasized that at this moment the reforms in the field of general education and the introduction of a new standard are being carried out with the support of the EU.

The RA Minister of Finance Vahe Hovhannisyan emphasized the significance of collaboration with the European Union. He expressed optimism that a mutual commitment to deepen this collaboration would bring new momentum to the implementation of current and upcoming initiatives.

Vahe Hovhannisyan emphasized that the ongoing reforms across various sectors, notably in education, are incorporated into the state budget, and additional budgetary support complements these efforts, ensuring the effective implementation of planned initiatives.

Ambassador Vasilis Maragos, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Armenia, thanked for the reception, emphasizing the successful cooperation with Armenia and expressed readiness to join efforts to develop it.

The ambassador also highly appreciated the extensive school construction works carried out by the RA government, noting that the European Union is also considering the possibility of supporting Armenia in this process.

In this context, Zhanna Andreasyan informed that the ministry's 2024 budget will record an unprecedented 38% increase compared to last year and will amount to 345 billion 417 million drams, where 129 billion drams or 37.4 percent are intended for capital expenditures.

During the discussion, it was highlighted that the continuous budgetary support allocated to Armenia, including a portion designated for the education sector, will be around 5 million euros.
